Creating a Brand with Burning Daylight Font

As a graphic designer, I recently had the opportunity to work on a visual identity for a charming local café. The café, known for its cozy ambiance and delectable pastries, needed a fresh and inviting brand that would resonate with both regulars and new customers. After some initial brainstorming, I decided to test Burning Daylight, a stunning handwritten font created by Jokiranta, as the primary typeface for this project.

First Impressions of Burning Daylight

The first thing that struck me about Burning Daylight was its unique, handcrafted feel. The font has a fluid, organic quality that makes it perfect for adding a personal touch to any design. Its casual yet elegant style immediately set the right tone for the café’s branding, making it feel approachable and welcoming.

Testing the Font in Logo Design

I started by testing Burning Daylight in the logo design. The café’s name, “Morning Brew,” looked absolutely delightful in this font. The handwritten style gave the logo a friendly, almost whimsical feel, which perfectly matched the café’s atmosphere. I also experimented with different weights and styles to see how they would look on a sign above the café’s entrance. The result was a logo that felt both modern and timeless.

Branding and Packaging Design

With the logo finalized, I moved on to the rest of the branding materials. For the business cards, I used Burning Daylight for the café’s name and a clean, sans serif font for the contact information. This combination created a nice balance between the playful and professional elements. The same approach was applied to the menu, where the headings were in Burning Daylight, and the item descriptions in a simple, easy-to-read sans serif.

For the packaging, I designed a series of labels for the café’s homemade jams and pastries. The handwritten style of Burning Daylight added a personal, artisanal touch, making each product feel special. The font’s readability at smaller sizes was impressive, ensuring that all the necessary information was clear and legible.

Social Media and Digital Presence

In today’s digital age, a strong social media presence is crucial. I used Burning Daylight for the café’s Instagram posts, creating eye-catching graphics that stood out in the feed. The font’s natural, handwritten look made the posts feel more like personal updates from the café, rather than formal advertisements. This helped to build a stronger connection with the café’s followers and potential customers.

Website and Editorial Design

For the café’s website, I incorporated Burning Daylight into the hero section, where it welcomed visitors with a warm, inviting message. The font’s elegance and readability made it an excellent choice for the main headings, while a complementary sans serif font was used for the body text. This combination ensured that the site was both visually appealing and user-friendly.

In the café’s monthly newsletter, I used Burning Daylight for the headlines and key points, giving the content a personal, engaging feel. The font’s versatility allowed it to work well in both digital and print formats, maintaining a consistent and recognizable brand identity across all platforms.

Practical Advice for Using Burning Daylight

Before fully committing to Burning Daylight for the entire brand system, I recommend testing it in various contexts. Try it on mockups for shop signs, business cards, and packaging to see how it looks in real-world scenarios. It’s also essential to check the font’s included styles, alternates, and ligatures to add variety and personality to your designs.

When pairing Burning Daylight with other fonts, consider using a clean, sans serif for body text and a classic serif for more formal elements. This combination will help maintain a balanced and professional look while still allowing the handwritten charm of Burning Daylight to shine through.

Final Thoughts on Burning Daylight

Burning Daylight proved to be a versatile and charming font that added a unique, personal touch to the café’s branding. Its handwritten style, combined with excellent readability and a range of stylistic options, made it a perfect choice for a wide array of design applications. Whether you’re working on a small café, a boutique, or any other creative project, Burning Daylight is a font that can bring your vision to life with elegance and flair.
